With daylight saving officially on the clock and the urge to spring forward thwarted by the sleep still in our eyes from last night’s slumber, perhaps a tea toast to some of the finest wake-up type tea I’ve ever brewed would be timely. To keep it stealthy strong but still sweetly tasty, I combined a full teaspoon of the rich, black, Golden Monkey Tea (which previously was used for my Orangeious George Tea Snack) with a half a teaspoon of the raspberry chocolate flavored Utopian Jewel Oolong Tea (which you may recall being used for my Spiced Mandarin Gr-oolong Tea Snack) and about a quarter of a teaspoon’s taste of some strawberry scented aged black pu-erh tea, and, honestly, I truly think I may have re-coined the phrase regarding the best part of waking up. Now, now, sure, I could have gone easy on the black tea and harder on the fruity oolong tea but, quite frankly, it’s daylight savings and, you don’t send a crumb to do a snack’s job! Cheers all!

The Teas

Since I’ve already covered the Golden Monkey Tea and the Utopian Jewel Oolong Tea, I’ll simplyblock quote those descriptions for you and whip out a fresh one for the..

Strawberry Slender Pu-Erh Tea is certainly not one to be slender in taste, if you know what I mean. This aged black pu-erh tea has a lovely strawberry scent (and taste) and is claimed to assist in lowering cholesterol while also being good for the heart and, furthermore, is coined a diet tea because it aides in the digestion of fat and saturated oils. Learn More

Golden Monkey Black Tea is a rich flavored China black tea, fresh from the Fujian province, exhibiting a smooth taste with with complex chocolaty undertones. Although this tea is extremely low in tannins, it still packs a rich flavor for your enjoyment. Like all black teas, this Golden Monkey Black Tea is known for helping to lower cholesterol while also being good for the heart as well as for promoting healthy teeth, skin and bones. Learn More

Utopian Jewel Oolong Tea has a raspberry chocolate like odor/taste but yet still acts like the oolong tea that it is and claims to help burn body fat while also increasing metabolism, aiding in digestion and supporting teeth and skin. Learn More

Thanks (again) to Jerome Chang of Blank Spaces, I came through with a helping of snacks for February’s Freelancer Fridays attendees. With 3 boxes of Crock Pot Cooked Jambalaya in a 5 quart crock-pot, 3 gallons of Blue Dew Iced Tea in a 5 gallon thermos, 50 mini Oatmeal Squares and about 30 Blueberry White Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies (which actually turned out to be a big pile of cookie crumbs after I rush scraped them off of the cookie sheet ), both in separate, 76 ounce plastic ziploc containers, I made like Santa Claus in February and delivered the treats!

Snack By Snack

Besides the remaining 5-7 mini pieces of Yo Momma’s Oatmeal Squares and the half gallon of Blue Dew Tea that I transferred back home, all snacks were pretty much consumed within about an hour’s time. To no surprise of mine, first from the list to go (thanks to the hearty appetite of Francisco Dao, who you may know from The Killer Pitch) was none other than my Creole Crock Pot Jambalaya. The Clarified Butter Blueberry White Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies followed shortly behind, leaving the “and then there were two” scenario with my Blue Dew Iced Tea and my Yo Momma’s Oatmeal Squares sitting around, just waiting to be had.

In Attendance

Although I can’t claim to have met with all persons who were at Blank Spaces last night, I can certainly claim to have connected with quite a few pleasant folk. Amongst them would be the first lady I walked by (and checked in with) as I entered the spot, Katya Roberts, who is property manager at Blank Spaces. Then, after laying the snacks out on the table, I was kindly greeted by Kim Koury, President of Spin Public Relations, a PR firm in Santa Monica specializing in public relations, strategic planning and special events coordination. In addition, I also had the pleasure of meeting publicist, Michelle Avedissian; network specialist, Matthew Almanza; and reporter with SynchedUpShow, Rich Demuro. And, last, but certainly not least on the (had the pleasure of meeting with) list would be Angela Wise, director of sale and distribution for (the innovative and creative custom label energy drinks company,) Xbrand Fluids, LLC.

*Did you go to this month’s Freelancer Fridays (or, perhaps a previous month’s)? What did you think?

As you may have previously sipped on with my article containing the Blue Dew Iced Tea recipe, I tend to mix, match and brew different tea blends in an attempt to construct a deliciously unique flavor to savor (and, perhaps, favor). Well, this time, I made like normal and reached into the cupboard to grab two of my fresh tea filled mason jars. With a spiced mandarin flavored green tea and a raspberry chocolate flavored oolong tea in hand, I eyed down the pot on the stove and made ready for another funky batch of Scotty Snacks Tea.

How The Did Was Done

Once the approximate 1.5 cups of water began to boil, I turned off the heat, dropped in a teaspoon of each tea blend, closed the lid and let said concoction simmer for about 10 minutes. I then poured the mixture into a mason jar of choice, tossed in a cube of ice, gulped it down along with a slice of mandarin and a block of white chocolate (how appropriate, right?) and totally dug the taste of it. After noticing the spice like fruit flavor and considering it’s green tea and oolong tea constituents, I couldn’t help but to claim it, Spiced Mandarin Gr-oolong Tea. You likey?

The Teas

Mandarin Orange Organic Green Tea smells and tastes like cinnamon spiced oranges and, like all green teas, is apparently great for detoxifying the body and regulating blood sugar while also helping to keep teeth, skin and bones healthy. Learn More

Utopian Jewel Oolong Tea has a raspberry chocolate like odor/taste but yet still acts like the oolong tea that it is and claims to help burn body fat while also increasing metabolism, aiding in digestion and supporting teeth and skin. Learn More

Put down the (carbonated) cold drinks and quench your thirst right with a freshly brewed glass of tea straight from the pitcher or the pot in the Scotty Snacks kitchen. For this particular tea party, I am boasting about a sweet little tea concoction that I like to coin, Blue Dew. Specifically made using a blueberry flavored rooibos tea and a honeydew melon flavored white tea, I boiled some water on the stove, added 1 teaspoon of each tea and let simmer for about 10 minutes prior to pouring into a small mason jar, adding an ice cube along with a slice of honeydew melon and sipping down. And, let me just tell you, whether served cold in a glass or hot in a cup, this Blue Dew tea will have you requesting a refill before the bottoms are up. Try some!

To Note:

Not to make this tea post some sort of sales pitch but, I do tend to purchase all of my teas from Teavana because, well, I honestly think that they have the <del datetime="2009-02-10T07:11:53+00:00">best</del> most delicious tea combos at the <del datetime="2009-02-10T07:11:53+00:00">best</del> most cost efficient prices on the market. With that spelled out, the 2 specific teas used for this particular tea were:

Blueberry Bliss Rooibos Tea which tastes and smells like just like blueberries while still bringing the same nutritional value of any other rooibos tea with it’s high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Learn More

Chinese Honey Dew White White Tea which tastes and smells like honeydew melon, packing the antioxidants and helping to detoxify the body. Learn More
